When you are planning for the future, you need to know what the future holds. This year’s NCA Texcare Program is putting the future center stage by focusing on the answers and insights to the important issues facing dry cleaners today.
On Friday morning October 20th at 9 AM, Lorynn Divita, Ph.D., author, fashion merchandising expert, textile specialist, and futurist, will report on the state of the fashion industry, the trends that will comprise the wardrobe basics of millennials and others, the future of fast fashion (that’s the Forever 21, H & M and other cheap fashion sources), what garment manufacturers are eying for the future and what the next generation of consumers is looking for from service providers like dry cleaners.
Did you know at least one retailer promoting smart fabric garments are using tag lines like, “Ditch the Drycleaner”? There are things happening in the fashion marketplace and in the minds and hearts of consumers that you need to know about, and Dr. Divita is at Texcare to let you know what those things are! She spoke at NCA’s Brainstorming Conference earlier this year to rave reviews, and NCA is delighted that she’s coming to share her insights about both the threats and opportunities ahead for drycleaners like you.
NCA’s Executive Director Nora Nealis is going to follow Dr. Divita’s presentation with some practical advice on what cleaners can do to position themselves to succeed in changing world. From a look at industry disruptors like Fly and Rinse are offering consumers, to fashion trends that demand more than traditional dry cleaning to opportunities for growth you may have overlooked, and whether millennial behavior is likely to be lifestyle or life stage, Nora is going to explore with you what the future may hold and how you can make money by preparing for it now. She’ll explore dry cleaning service enhancements, apps and other ‘hooks’ that appeal to millennials, simple ways to upgrade wash and fold services so that you can get double or more return on wash and fold services, and lots more.
On Saturday morning October 21st at 9 AM NCA’s Technical Director, Alan Spielvogel will present his Top Ten Problems Facing Drycleaners in 2017. Mr. Spielvogel will review the problems most frequently submitted to the NCA’s Garment Analysis Laboratory by cleaners AND garment manufacturers. He’ll talk about what problems are most closely linked to which solvent processes, finishing techniques, temperature and mechanical action issues, and discuss whether or not they can be solved. Mr. Speilvogel holds a wealth of knowledge and experience and will be happily sharing his year in review with you.
On Saturday morning October 21st at 10 AM Charles Ickes, Former Chief Logistics Officer for Rent the Runway, will share with you the inside story on this market disruptor and the impact it will have on both the dry cleaning and the retail fashion industry. If you are unfamiliar with the company, check them out at renttherunway.com. For the past 7+ years, the company has specialized in renting high end and party dresses to women nationwide. They recently diversified into career and casual wear offering women an unlimited wardrobe for just $139/month.
Mr. Ickes will detail for you how he has positioned the company to handle the one million pieces they anticipate processing, and the vision the founders and investors have for the company. He will also share his own thoughts on how RTR will impact dry cleaners. The session will include a Q & A.
Cleaners who use them and manufacturers who make them will share the stage in a panel discussion on the solvents they believe are the future of the industry. The dual roles of the presenters ensure that no question should go unanswered. This is the perfect opportunity for cleaners to get a side by side view of what their options are, and what they need to know to use each of them successfully.
